One day last week, I visited by the healing garden at the Scarborough campus of the Maine Medical Center while my friend was inside getting a mammogram. Wow, was I surprised at the difference since my last visit, just after it was built.
The garden has settled in beautifully to the surroundings. It was pretty in the summer, but I love the fall view of it even better. See those low red shrubs? They are cottoneaster, and I will definitely have some in my garden next year. I would have shown some close-ups of the plants, but my battery died after the third shot, and my spare, instead of being in my Coolpix camera case, was still plugged into the charger, tucked away in the drawer! The garden is located just to he left of the back entrance to the building.

Sandy – those reds and golds really pop! At least you had a battery in the camera. My husband dropped me along the creek a couple days ago and when I tried to take the first pic, I realized my battery was still home in the charger! I had a nice 4 mile walk back – no pics, though!
A healing garden. That just sounds wonderful.

That is a very peaceful looking garden. I love that more and more hospitals are planting healing gardens.
It really is a spot of beauty and someone put a lot of thought into the color arrangement of the plants. A lovely place to sit and what a great name.
It has grown to be very beautiful and every hospital should have one. So often nature does a much better job than doctores.
I loverd your SWF post as well and the lovely autumn woods.
I ran out of battery too last week, my spare was charged, but in my camera case in the car and we were on a longish walk. The laugh was definitely on me.
Wonderful colors, Sandy. Glad you got to enjoy these serene scenes before the winter.
what a lovely garden and beautiful fall colors. i’m glad you were able to get these shots before your camera battery died. hope all is well.
How lovely and serene-looking. I have never heard of a healing garden, but what a wonderful idea.
Love the bench shot. Beautiful.
What a wonderful place to sit and “heal”. Very peaceful looking.
